With an over all record of 7-1, team angry dragons came in 2nd out of 18 teams at Country Club Paintball’s Rookie tournament on Sunday, March 14th, 2004. The games were 5 minutes long; center flag (pick the flag up in the center, and bring it to the opposite side of the field.

Game 1: Angry D vs. Painball Dave’s

First game of the day, time to get the rust out, and get rolling. I took center-left, Bill center-right, and Josh rolled out to the right stand up beer can on our 20. Josh got picked off right off the start. Bill got a kill and was nixed by Jayloo (playing for pbdaves) from the back corner standup. John paired up with their center man and took him out. Then Jayloo made a huge move crossing from the right tape to the left tape. I caught wind of his move, but didn’t know if they had another man. Jayloo and I duked it out for a minute, I bounced a ball of his arm and he switched sides on his bunker. I snapshotted him by going over the top of my bunker and won the game.

  • Score: Angry D 94 / Paintball Dave’s 14
  • Kills: John: 2 / Bill: 1
  • Deaths: Josh / Bill

Game 2: Angry D vs. Flipside

Flipside was the weakest team in our division, they were younger, no fault of their own. Bill went right, John center, Josh left. Bill got a guy out of the back center early on. Josh grabbed the flag, and wasn’t pushing hard enough, so I raced down the left tape, passing the 50. I stopped at a dorito, took out one flipsider on the other tape who didn’t know it was coming, then continued on to the back bunker, and bunkered the hell out of a little guy who was looking the wrong way.

  • Score: Angry D 100 / Flipside 0
  • Kills: John: 2 / Bill: 1

Game 3: Angry D vs. Marquette University Warriors

These guys rolled their first opponents, so we knew this would be a tougher game. We sent Bill to the left tape, John center, Josh right. They were aggressive and sent a guy in to bunker bill early on, but Bill and John both lit him up (shared kill). They had a guy on the left 50, and back right standup. Bill miscommunicated about the guy on the left 50, and I went on a bunker move to the wrong spot. Luckily I got covered from the right 50, and forced the second guy in the back into his bunker so I was safe for the time being. Then all hell broke loose. 50 guy said fsck it, and ran to bunker Bill cause he had no cover from John. I think we hit him before he got to Bill, either way though, Bill took him out, but was eliminated in the same move. Josh took out the last guy, but got gogged at the same time. I took no fire, but the refs said I was out, I had them check me over, and they finally realized they were wrong and I got the hang as there was no one left.

  • Score: Angry D 94 / MU Warriors 14
  • Kills: Bill: 1.5 / Josh: 1 / John: .5
  • Deaths: Bill / Josh

Game 4: Angry D vs. Remax

Remax is always a nasty team to beat. But they had been beaten earlier in the day, and this was our chance to keep them from entering the playoffs. We knew they threw down a lot of paint and played aggressive, so we decided to play right back at them throw tons of paint, and not let them advance to the flag. I took the left can and went through 500 balls, unheard of for me. Josh made it to the 50 on the tape. Bill grabbed the flag and took someone out. Cheech’s gun wasn’t working right and the game ended in a stalemate. We got points for a pull and one kill, and they got 6 for having men left at the end of the game.

  • Score: Angry D 36 / Remax 6
  • Kills: Bill: 1

Game 5: Angry D vs. Apathy

Apathy was the team that beat remax so we were worried that they were pretty good. Bill took out a guy on a crossshot a minute or two into the game, and Josh bit it from somewhere. I pressed up the middle of the field, and Bill put down some cover fire and I bunkered one dude, came out and got the last guy. The last guy bounced one off me at the same time, but I was still alive at the end. After the game, the guy I bunkered showed me that I shot a hole in one of the pods on his back. Crazy.

  • Score: Angry D 97 / Apathy 7
  • Kills: John: 2 / Bill: 1
  • Deaths: Josh

Qualifying rounds recap: We won our division and went into the playoffs seeded first. We almost went in seeded second, but warped chaos bombed out their final game, and we had the most points out of everyone (like 420 out of 500 possible)

Playoff quarterfinals: Angry D (#1) vs. Dave’s Paintball (#8)

Time to play Jayloo’s team again. We held Bill up from going to the left off the break cause Jayloo shoots like a madman. Bill made the left and got a guy out on a cross shot. I took out jayloo by hitting the tip top of his head, he was too tall for the bunker he was playing. It was a wild shot cause I sort of lobbed it in there. Payback for the last time I played him in the finals when the ref broke my hopper, my teammate ran out of paint, and he beat us on the 2 on 1. Long story, back to the action. The final guy was in the back center but moved left, then ran the width of the field to the right. I was on the 50 and hit him up on the way over to the right tape, end of game.

  • Score: Angry D 100 / Dave’s Paintball 0
  • Kills: John: 2 / Bill: 1

Playoff semifinals: Angry D (#1) vs. Pink Dino (#4 or 5)

We saw pink dino play their quarterfinal match and they looked good. They shot a lot of paint and looked like a solid team. Same positions as before, I bit it off a bounce off a sandbag and into my knee early on. First time I got eliminated all day. Bill and Josh took the right tape, and pushed the field. Josh pulled the flag all stealthily, and got us the points. Josh got hit from the left tape soon after, but Bill held on, covered the flag, and we won the game through a stalemate.

  • Score: Angry D 30 / Pink Dino 14
  • Kills: Bill: 1
  • Deaths: John / Josh

Playoff Finals: Angry D (#1) vs. Superchamps (#?)

What a game, we were so close to winning it all. Here comes the recap. Bill or Josh picked off a guy going to the back standup, and we started off the game up by a player. Bill bit it on some misinformation, he didnt know a guy had moved to the right tape from the back center. Josh also got out on a cross shot. So I took Bill’s place on the left tape, and waited for the guy to come up the right tape to bunker me. Sure enough he did, and I wasted him. One on one. But I wasn’t thinking. It was a long day (already 2PM, and I was tired). I got cocky, and ran to our center 40, to get in position for a flag pull, followed by the bunker run to win it all. I knew which bunker he was in but posted on the wrong side. He snapshotted and one balled me in the face from the tape side of the bunker and we lost. It was so close, if he missed me, I could have tucked in and put up a good fight. But it was such a surprise, and we ended up taking second. It netted us trophies, and our mission was complete.

  • Score: Angry D 14 / Superchamps 94
  • Kills: John: 1 / Bill: .5 / Josh: .5
  • Deaths: Bill / Josh / John

Recap: Not a bad day, but it sucked to go out as losers after winning seven in a row. On a weird note, I ended up with a lot of stuff going missing. 2 Pods, my barrel swab, and my mask bag. Sucks to be me. No worries, since I never need more than 3 pods anyways, and that is what I have left. This was the 4th tourney I’ve played since we won last July and we were due for trophies, after so many bs losses. Felt good to play with Bill. We’ve played together for so long the communication is a given and gameplay is much more relaxed because I’m not worried about getting my ass shot off out of nowhere.

Final Kill / Death Ratio:

  • John: 9.5 / 2
  • Bill: 8 / 3
  • Josh: 1.5 / 5
